The 13th annual Christmas Lunch for NSW members was held in the NSW Parliament House Strangers Dining Room on Thursday 10 December hosted by the Hon Jillian Skinner MP, Minister for Health, wife of Captain Chris Skinner, RAN Ret’d. The theme for the event was Supplying the Navy, bringing to the forefront the critical support role played by “Pussers” in today’s and yesterday’s navies.
As has been the tradition at these convivial occasions, the guest of honour and guest speaker was again a female of some distinction. In this instance the guest of honour was a serving officer, LCDR Kelly Haywood, a Maritime Logistics Officer, who won the national Telstra Small Businesswoman of the Year in 2013 and, in 2015, the Business News 40 Under 40 Intrapreneur award. LCDR Haywood spoke to the challenges of several of her recent postings as well as the role she has assumed in supporting the prevention of suicide.
As evidenced by the photo gallery, Christmas cheer was abundantly evident, enhanced by a woodwind quintet and soloist from the Navy Band.
