Defence has selected the Mogami class frigate tendered by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries of Japan to be Australia’s SEA3000 General Purpose Frigate. At least three and possibly six will be built in Japan and at least five and possibly eight will be built in Western Australia by Austal (presumably under supervision by Mitsubishi) after they have completed building heavy landing craft for the Australian Army.
