VALE – CAPT John Perrett RAN Ret’d

Dear members,

It is with great sadness that I advise the passing of NOA member Captain John Perrett, RAN Ret’d.

John joined the Royal Australian Navy College at HMAS Cerberus as a 13-year-old Cadet Midshipman in January 1950.

After graduation, he trained with the Royal Navy in HMS Triumph and HMS Jamaica before undertaking the engineering course at RNEC MANADON (HMS Thunderer). He achieved his primary qualification as a LEUT (ME) in early 1961 and served at sea as an engineer in HMA Ships Melbourne, Sydney, Gascoyne, Derwent and Voyager. John also served at HMAS Nirimba training young apprentices and later young officers at the RANC, HMAS Creswell.

John was promoted to Captain in 1981 and spent time as an attaché in London and was awarded a Flag Officer’s Commendation in 1989.

After transfer to the Naval Reserve in Feb 1990 John undertook continuous full-time service in 1991/1992 and again in 1996/1997.

Funeral details will be advised when known.
